Travel Tips: Taking Care Of Your Passport

What is the number one most important document you should safeguard during your travel anywhere? It is your Passport! Without your passport, you have no way to prove who you are when you are overseas.
You can even be considered an illegal immigrant or entrant to the country you are visiting. So it is of utmost important for you to safeguard your passport which confirms your identity and nationality.
Apart from the usual verifications at airport entry points or borderline checkpoints, you may also be required to present your passport when checking into your hotel. In some country you may be asked to leave your passport at the hotel’s front desk for police verifications.
However, you have the right not to leave your passport with anyone. Don’t trust anyone and don’t leave your passport with unknown people. If the hotel requires police verifications, ask them to call you at your room when the police arrive so that you can show your passport.
If you have lost your passport, you should not blame others because of your carelessness. In the event you have lost your passport or anything, make a police report immediately in the nearby police station and get help from your country’s embassy.
Whether you are in a very advance country or a poor 3rd world country, criminals are everywhere. If it is easy to recognize a criminal, life everywhere will be safe and we don’t have to safeguard anything. However, life isn’t that way.
So protecting yourself and your belongings from such thieves is your personal responsibility. Don’t leave your belongings anywhere even if it is just for awhile. Always carry your important stuffs like your passport personally wherever you go.
Generally, thieves who steal from tourist work in a group. They will try to divert your attention by doing something like asking you to hold something or create an event which will attract your attention towards them while someone else may try to pickpocket you or snatch your belongings.
So be careful and be aware wherever you are. More especially when you are in a crowded place. It does not mean that you have to look at everyone with suspicious eyes but you have to be aware of what’s happening. Prevention is better than cure.
Always keep a copy of your important documents like your passport because lost of belongings are unpredictable and it can happen. Your copy of passport for example will make it easier when you make a police report while you are in overseas and will also help your country’s embassy to easily identify and confirm your nationality.
Keep your self on guard and safe from loosing your valuables during your travel. With extra awareness, thefts or lost can be prevented.
