It is important to make sure that your wholly healthy before and during your travel. If you get sick in your travel, it’s usually because of lack of proper awareness on being healthy while traveling as well as because lacking strong immune system.

If you have the awareness of what you should be doing before traveling and during your travel, you will be unlikely to get sick or illness. So we start with the basics in traveling; make sure you are healthy before you start your travel.

If not, don’t take that trip. Wait until you get well and fit and when you are feel confidently ready, also make sure you have the knowledge to avoid or handle unwanted health related problems during travel such Jet lags, high altitude sickness or diarrhea.

A jet lag for example, is said to be caused by fast transits across different time zones that the different time interrupts our circadian rhythm resulting in changes in body temperature, blood pressure or even heartbeat rate.

I have never had this problem in all my experience traveling to different time zone countries, so I cannot verify this based on personal experience. However, many travelers have reported such biological changes that hurts their travel plan. Thus, we should not overlook it.

You can’t enjoy your travel if you are not fit or healthy. The phrase, ‘prevention is better than cure’ holds true for any traveler who wants to be healthy during their travel. So what can we do to overcome or reduce Jet Lag?

Get a good sleep or enough of rest prior to taking your flight. You will be more energetic if you are free from stress or worries. You must enjoy your travel and to have such ability you need enough of rest and energy.

So as it is usual to feel tired after a long flight, if you like, do what I always do after hitting the ground from a long flight. I will just go to my hotel and rest for that whole day. All my travel activities only starts the next day after I have recovered my energy completely.

If you have landed on a higher ground and your to go a much higher ground the next day., it is even more important to rest first after a long flight. The high altitude sickness you may face on a higher altitude can be even worst with added tiredness.

High altitude sickness which is often causes headaches, dizziness, quick dehydration or difficulties in breathing are caused by decrease of oxygen, dry air and low barometric pressure, but it can be easily reduced or overcome by consuming high altitude sickness medicine like Acetazolamide.

You will also need to be careful with what you are eating during your travel. Although I personally feel that the travel problem such as having diarrhea is overrated, it should not be overlooked too as many travelers have had it at least once or twice in their travel.

This problem which is also known as Turista is caused by travelers consuming contaminated food or liquid. Remember to eat or drink what has been cooked. Perhaps the reason I have never gotten a diarrhea in my travel is because I personally cook my foods and boil my water. You can do it too.

So why do I emphasize a lot on taking care of your health during your travel? It is simply because if you are not healthy, you travel will not be as fun or enjoyable as it should be. Nobody wants to travel unhealthy. You should make sure your health concerns are taken care every step of the way both before travel and during traveling.

It will make your travel exciting.
