Group Travel Vs. Traveling Alone

Although I have traveled in a group and have great times, I prefer traveling solo or traveling alone. If you are interested in traveling but wondering if you should travel in a group or travel alone, it will help if you can weigh the pros and cons of group traveling as well as the pros and cons of traveling alone.

The reason many people travel alone or solo is because of the freedom they are getting in doing things their ways. This is true for me. I am the type who loves being independent. I love doing things my way. Think about it; if you are in a group, you have to put up with what others want to do in the travel which you may not like.

If this is the case, conflict of interest can arise and when this happen, there won’t be much joy in the travel. So choose traveling alone or traveling solo if you are the type who wants to make your own choices. In fact, when you travel alone, you can build your self confidence. If you are already a confident person, you can further enhance your confidence level.

When I first traveled alone, I traveled all the way to Nepal from my home country. That’s a 2012 miles or 3237 kilometers away from home. At that time I was twenty four years old. I just booked my ticket and reserved a hotel in Kathmandu and flew the following week. In fact, when I did that, it was done to test my own guts of doing something alone.

Guess what? I am glad I did it. Since then I became a very self confident person. I knew by challenging myself to travel like this was the way I can bring self confidence in myself and I was right. Now, if you ask me to travel to any part of the world alone, I dare. You don’t have to be old to start your travel. You just need proper information, documents, enough of money and a little bit of daringness.

So traveling alone can be a life changing experience. It may end up a bad experience for some since nothing is predictable, but it then end traveling is all about learning something about life. In my own experience, whether you enjoy your travel or not, you are guaranteed to learn something out of your travel anywhere. This is largely due to the fact that when we travel alone, we have more time to contemplate and experience life around us the way we want.

Traveling alone has its cons though. Unlike traveling in a group, where you can share most of your travel cost, traveling alone can be costly. For example, when you travel with a partner you can share your room and cut down the cost which you cannot do when you are traveling alone. You can also at times share transportation fees or get group discounts.

On top of that, traveling in a group also means safety. You won’t feel much fear knowing there is always someone next to you in case things goes wrong in your travel. In fact both of you can depend on one another. When you get sick or ill for example, you will have someone beside you which will be very helpful. You are also less likely to feel lonely or homesick. Group traveling also can be more enjoyable sometimes because you can plan for group activities.

What all these means is that you have to know your own unique preferences. When you know what you like and don’t like, you can make a choice based on that on which type of travel you want to do; either traveling in a group or traveling alone. It is your choice. Just learn the pros and cons and think about which type of travel will give you the most out of the travel.

A good way to begin is by asking yourself, “what is the purpose of me wanting to take this travel?” If you know your travel purpose, you can decide better; group travel or traveling alone.
