Choosing The Best Travel Season
Posted in Travel Tips on Feb 28th, 2008
Choosing the best time to travel depends to individual ‘travel’ , ‘holiday’ or ‘vacation’ needs. Some people like many Asians for example prefer experiencing cool climate and may choose ‘winter holidays’ while Europeans may want to experience the heat of Asia.
So consider what you want to experience when choosing the time of travel. Find out whether you can experience what you want during your ‘travel’ at the time of your visit to the location or country.
In traveling, there are period of times known as off season times and on season times or holiday season. On season means the period of time where a lot of people travel. These times are known as holiday seasons such as during the Christmas time, Chinese New Year time, or during school holidays.
People travel during this time not just because of what they can experience during this time but also because it is usually during these times do they get time off from their work. Most companies closes during this times allowing their employees time off from work.
Traveling during peak seasons or the holiday season has its own pitfalls as much as traveling during off season times. For example, during the peak season time, you may not be able to get the right accommodation you want. All the hotel rooms may be fully booked.
Usually it will be a good idea to travel during off season time to avoid such pitfalls. You may even get cheaper room rates in top class hotels or you may get cheaper travel rates from the Airline companies. Not to forget the mobility you can have.
There are places when visiting during peak seasons will be so crowded that you may not experience what you want, for example, you may want to visit a famous restaurant at the place of your visit, but you may not be able to get a sit in the restaurant.
Then again, it really depends to what you really want to experience and with whom you are traveling. As for me, I like to travel alone. Backpacking and hitting the road is my style. I enjoy the freedom or mobility I get traveling alone.
I prefer not to travel during holiday seasons. I also don’t like cool weather so I’d rather travel during summer time enjoying sunny days. I also prefer traveling during off seasons because I know during this time, there will be lesser tourist.
The bad thing is, some of the places you want to visit may not be open or operate during this time of the year and there may be lesser tourist activities for you to enjoy. If you just want to experience the culture and being in other country, any time of the year should be fine.
Other setbacks traveling during off season times, for example, if you want to visit a remote place in the Himalayan range, you may not get the transportation that is usually available during the holiday times.
Despite this setbacks, I still enjoy off season traveling because it means I can spend time doing things the way the locals do as in traveling during this time. In Nepal for example, most part can be reached by simply trekking to that location although the air travel may make it easier.
The best way to choose the right time for your travel is to seriously consider what you want to experience and finding out if you can experience it during the time you want to visit.
A good idea is to invest in a travel guidebook and find out all the information about the activities you can do during the time you want to visit that particular country. If you can plan properly, you can always enjoy your travel no matter when you travel.
Well, even if you don’t plan, you still can enjoy the travel, if you will just go for the experience, just like me. As for me, traveling is about gaining experience and learning.
