It is quite common for business people to go on business travel every now and then. If this is the first time you are going to go on a business travel, you may want to do the following in order to have a peaceful safe travel away from your own business.

First of all don’t let all of your employees know that you are going to go away on a business travel somewhere. Make sure only important people know about your travel plan.

Having worked in a multinational company, one important thing I learned is, when the staffs knows the boss is not around, they tend to slow down on their work and take much of their daily responsibilities for granted.

Make sure the information about your travel doesn’t leak out to the entire employees working in your company. The only person who will know about your travel will be your personal assistant other than top level executives.

Make sure those who work for you are reliable in keeping information discreet.

If you are someone well known or wealthy, you should take relevant travel insurance in while traveling to high profile country like Iraq or Iran just in case you get kidnapped.

This thing can happen to anyone and have happened before, especially to journalists who have traveled there.

Being careful while away in some country is very important as it can protect you from unwanted hassles or problems. If you are carrying a notebook with you, do not use it in a public place. You notebook might get snatched.

If you have to use your notebook in public places like in a wireless connection zone, make sure you closely guard your personal information. Make sure you use a good system which can prevent hacking.

If your private information is hacked, it can be wrongly used for monetary gain or for kidnapping. A safe place to use your notebook will be from your own hotel room, even then, in my experience it will only be safe if you are staying in a very good hotel.

If you are leaving your hotel room, do not leave your notebook in the room. It will be much safer to leave them in the safety box provided by the hotel. This includes for all other important documents and things.

Apart from this, you may also want to take some extra safety measure during your business travel. If you are new to the country you are visiting and not familiar with it, do not easily talk to strangers who talk to you.

There are a lot of scammers out there who will try to cheat the travelers. Keep a low profile. Wear normal clothes like other people instead of business suits except when you are going for the meeting etc.

While in the hotel, if you receive any gift or something from someone unknown, do not open it. Don’t open your room door if someone unexpected presses the doorbell. Call up the front desk people to make sure who it is.

If you are making the appointment for the first time, it will be a good idea to meet them in your hotel lobby instead of the place they ask you to meet. This is a good way to safeguard your self. I have personally done this.

There are much more things you can do to protect yourself but of all the things I have learned, the best is to keep a low profile and walk with a travel guide. You will be much safer hiring a professional travel guide than walking alone in the street or places.
